Sound Mind Counselling

Walk and talk counselling in Abbotsford

Not every conversation happens best sitting across from someone in an office. Walk and talk counselling takes the session outdoors — we walk side by side at a comfortable pace on local trails while we talk. Same counselling, same support, in a setting that helps many people think and speak more freely.

For people who think better on the move.

You might find it hard to sit still and talk about difficult things face to face. Perhaps your mind settles when you're moving, or being outdoors helps you breathe and think. Maybe the idea of a counselling office has been the thing holding you back from booking at all.

Walking side by side takes the intensity out of eye contact and gives the conversation a natural rhythm. Many men in particular find it easier to open up this way, and teens and adults with ADHD often find the movement itself helps them focus.

The same support, in a different setting.

  • Walk and talk sessions cover the same concerns as office sessions — stress, anxiety, anger, relationships, feeling stuck, and life changes.

  • We walk at your pace on agreed local routes in the Abbotsford area. Sessions are 50 minutes, the same as an office appointment, and the fee is the same $150.

  • Movement and fresh air can help settle a busy or anxious mind, making it easier to talk about what's weighing on you.

  • If faith matters to you, we can include it in our conversation, just as we would indoors. If it doesn't, that's fine too.

How it works

Practical, unhurried, and planned together.

I'm Joshua Abercrombie, a Registered Clinical Counsellor in Abbotsford. Before our first outdoor session, we'll agree on where to meet, the route, and what to do if the weather turns — we can always move the session to my office, by phone, or online instead. We walk on maintained, man-made paths that are free from known obstructions, so sessions stay within the scope described by my professional liability coverage.

A few honest limits, so you know what to expect: a public trail can't offer the same privacy as a closed office door. We may pass other walkers, and while conversations stay between us, we can't control who is nearby. We'll talk about that together and choose quieter routes and times where we can. Walk and talk sessions also aren't the right fit for every concern — if I think an office session would serve you better, I'll say so.

You don't need any fitness level or special gear. Comfortable shoes and a pace that suits you are all it takes.

Your next steps

Start with what’s on your mind.

1. Book a free consultation

We'll have a 15-minute conversation about what you're looking for. You can ask about walk and talk sessions and decide whether working with me feels like a good fit.

2. Talk about what brings you here

In our first session, we'll explore your concerns, what you'd like support with, and whether walking sessions, office sessions, or a mix of both suits you best.

3. Work towards your goals

Through ongoing conversations, we'll build understanding and explore practical ways to respond to the challenges you're facing. We can adjust our focus — and our setting — as your needs change.
