Sound Mind Counselling
ADHD counselling in Abbotsford and online across BC
When everyday responsibilities take more energy than you have, advice to “just get organised” can miss what you’re experiencing. I offer compassionate, practical counselling to help you understand your needs, work through emotional challenges and find approaches that fit how you think.
ADHD support that looks beyond the unfinished to-do list.
You might know what needs to happen but struggle to get started. Perhaps you’re keeping up at work while things at home pile up, or finding that frustration and overwhelm are affecting your relationships.
You may also be carrying years of criticism, from others or yourself, about being inconsistent, distracted or not trying hard enough.
Counselling gives us space to understand these experiences in context. Together, we can explore what feels difficult, recognise your strengths and find practical ways to support your daily life.
Counselling for ADHD overwhelm, emotions and everyday demands.
-
When tasks, decisions and expectations pile up, it can feel difficult to know where to begin. We can explore the demands on your energy and identify ways to make them more manageable.
-
Frustration, disappointment or conflict may feel intense or difficult to move through. Together, we can explore your emotional responses and practise ways to pause, communicate and respond with greater understanding.
Alongside exploring the emotional impact of ADHD, I offer practical executive functioning coaching to help you work towards your everyday goals. I can also help you explore assessment pathways, possible funding and additional support, including connecting with other agencies on your behalf where helpful.
-
You may have clear intentions but find it difficult to begin, prioritise or finish tasks. We can explore where you get stuck and try practical strategies that fit your circumstances.
-
Forgotten plans, interrupted conversations or differences in expectations can create tension. Counselling offers space to understand these patterns and explore ways to communicate your needs and stay connected.
-
Repeatedly hearing that you should be doing better can affect how you see yourself. We can make room for those experiences and develop a more compassionate understanding of your strengths and difficulties.
-
Whether ADHD is a recent diagnosis or something you’ve understood for years, you may be reconsidering past experiences and what you need now. We can explore those questions at your pace.
Experience that informs your support
A practical approach to ADHD counselling, shaped by special education.
I’m Joshua Abercrombie, a Registered Clinical Counsellor in Abbotsford. Over a decade of experience as a high school counsellor and special education teacher shapes how I support neurodivergent clients.
I look at your strengths, relationships, environment and the demands you’re navigating. Our work can include both processing difficult experiences and exploring practical support for planning, routines and follow-through.
My Christian faith informs my work, and I welcome people of all faiths or none, with faith included in sessions only if you’d like it to be.
We’ll discuss what makes sessions useful and comfortable for you, and adjust our approach as we learn what works.
Wherever you’re starting
You can talk about your experiences while you’re exploring ADHD.
You may have a formal diagnosis, be waiting for an assessment or be wondering whether ADHD helps explain your experience. We can talk about the challenges bringing you to counselling without assuming what they mean.
This service focuses on counselling support rather than diagnostic assessment. If you’re looking for a diagnosis, we can discuss seeking an appropriate assessment provider.
