Joshua Abercrombie | Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC #26918)

My name is Joshua Abercrombie, and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor who helps individuals walk in wholeness and sound mind through counselling support and healing through Jesus.

Faith-Based Men's Counselling & Mental Strength

If you are seeking a faith-integrated approach to mental strength, I specialize in Christian men’s counselling. I provide a solid sounding board and practical guidance for men looking to confront life’s challenges, tackle high stress, and grow in their faith. Every man's path is unique, which is why my practice focuses on dedicated men's counselling that addresses the core issues men face—from anxiety and pressure to navigating major life transitions.

Specialized Support for Autism, ADHD, & Neurodivergence

Additionally, with over a decade of experience in the school system as a High School Counsellor and Special Education Teacher, I offer specialized support to unlock the unique potential in individuals and families walking through autism, ADHD, and neurodivergence. Whether you are looking for practical tools to cultivate growth in a neurodivergent individual, or a professional who understands the intersection of faith and mental wellness, I am here to help you achieve a sound mind.

About Joshua: Rooted in the Fraser Valley

My path to clinical counselling is built on a strong educational foundation and a genuine commitment to our community. I earned my Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts right here at the University of the Fraser Valley, before completing my Master of Counselling at Crown College in Minnesota. This background allows me to bring together proven, evidence-based therapy with a meaningful, Christ-centered perspective on healing.

Outside of my practice, my top priority is spending time with my family. I have been married for six years, and these past two years as a father to my two young daughters have been an incredible blessing. When I get a moment to recharge, I usually head out to fish on the river, work on hands-on projects around the house, or meet up with a friend to catch up over a Tim Hortons coffee.

Soundmind

Counselling

Many people find strength, encouragement, and belonging through their faith and church communities. At the same time, there are seasons when individuals benefit from additional support and a dedicated space to process life's challenges, questions, and experiences.

Some simply need a confidant who will listen with undivided attention, without judgment or interruption. Others may be navigating difficult relationships, life transitions, spiritual questions, or experiences that have impacted their faith journey.

This is where Soundmind Counselling comes in. As a therapist, I meet people exactly where they are. I have no agenda and value creating an open, safe space where individuals can explore sensitive topics honestly and at their own pace. I believe in client-led conversations, and when I do guide the process, it is through thoughtful questions and genuine curiosity. Together, we explore your strengths, resilience, and the ways you have already overcome challenges. Rather than trying to fix people, I believe meaningful change occurs through a supportive, authentic, and honest therapeutic relationship.

Office located upstairs in The House of James.

My greatest conviction, both professionally and personally, is that Jesus Christ is the path to healing. God has given me a career as a counsellor to help facilitate that for individuals. I am grateful to Him for his calling to this work!

My Areas of Expertise

I specialize in three areas:

In addition to my specializations, below are other I can help you with:

-       Navigating co-parenting

-       Depression and apathy

-       Anxiety and obsessive thoughts/behaviors

-       Burnout

-       Religious abuse or negative church experiences

-       Family

Modalities

My counselling practice draws from Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, DBT and CBT. Trauma informed practice is a huge part of my work. I see how trauma can impact several aspects of an individual’s life and thus, I am non-assuming with clients, never trying to force change, but rather allowing it to happen naturally as an individual is empowered through therapeutic support.
