Christian Counselling in Abbotsford
Faith is an important part of who I am and how I work — and you set the pace for how much of it is part of our conversation.
Christian counselling, with faith at your pace.
Sound Mind is a Christian counselling practice. Faith is an important part of who I am and how I work — and you set the pace for how much of it is part of our conversation. Some clients want prayer and Scripture woven through their sessions. Others simply want a counsellor who shares their worldview.
And people of all faiths, or none, are welcome here — several of my clients aren't Christians at all.
What faith-integrated counselling can include.
-
We can open or close a session in prayer, or pray about something specific as it comes up — led by me, or together. We may also do prayer exercises together: guided ways of praying through what you are carrying, rather than only talking about it. They help you discover, and they build the muscle of prayer so it grows stronger in your everyday life too. It is always your call, and it is never expected.
-
Sometimes a passage speaks directly to what you are carrying. We can read Scripture together in session, sit with what it says, and talk honestly about where it encourages you and where it is hard to hear. You are welcome to bring verses that have mattered to you — or ones you are wrestling with.
-
Faith does not always feel close. You might be praying and hearing nothing back, angry at God about how life has gone, or quietly wondering whether you still believe at all. Those questions are welcome here — you do not need to tidy them up first. We can work through them honestly, at your pace, without judgement and without pat answers.
-
When the place that should have been safe is the place that wounded you — through betrayal, control, exclusion or a misuse of trust — it can shake both your faith and your sense of belonging. Counselling gives that its own space: to name what happened, grieve it, and sort out what you still believe from what was done to you.
-
Guilt says you did something wrong; shame says you are something wrong. Many Christians carry both quietly for years. In session we can look at where that weight actually comes from, hold it up against grace, and work toward living less driven by it — honestly, and without condemnation.
-
Work, family, money, relationships — the big decisions are easier to carry when they line up with what you believe. We can talk them through with your faith on the table: what Scripture, prayer and your own convictions say, alongside the practical realities, so you can move forward with a clearer conscience and a steadier mind.
HOW I WORK
Honest conversations, with practical steps forward.
I’m Joshua Abercrombie, a Registered Clinical Counsellor in Abbotsford. My approach is compassionate, practical and led by what matters to you.
I’ll listen, ask thoughtful questions and help you make sense of patterns in your emotions, behaviour and relationships. We’ll recognise the strengths you already bring and explore ways to use them when things feel difficult.
You may find it easier to talk while doing something together. Alongside office, phone and online appointments, we can discuss meeting for a walk, hike or fishing session in Abbotsford.
You don’t need to arrive ready to share everything. We can start with what feels most useful to talk about and build from there.

Your next steps
Start with what’s on your mind.
1. Book a free consultation
Start with a free 20-minute consultation — a short call to talk about what you are facing and whether we are a good fit. Sessions are $150 per 50 minutes, in person in Abbotsford (above House of James) or online across BC.
2. Talk about what brings you here
In our first session, we’ll explore your concerns, what you’d like support with and what you hope might change.
3. Work towards your goals
Through ongoing conversations, we’ll build understanding and explore practical ways to respond to the challenges you’re facing. We can adjust our focus as your needs change.
